One of the most common worries about Indian food is the heat. The good news is that "Indian" doesn't automatically mean "spicy," and you have plenty of ways to control the level. Here's how to enjoy a meal in Surrey at the heat that suits you.
Spice and heat are different
Indian cooking uses many spices for aroma and depth, such as cumin, coriander and cardamom. Heat usually comes from chillies. A dish can be rich with spices and still be mild, so don't assume flavourful means fiery.
Tell your server your comfort level
The simplest approach is to share how much heat you like when you order. Say if you prefer mild, medium or hot, and ask your server which dishes tend to be gentler. Our team is happy to guide you to something you'll enjoy.
Start mild and build up
If you're unsure, begin with milder dishes and work toward spicier ones. At a buffet, this is easy, since you can take a small spoonful of a hotter dish to test it. Our lunch buffet is $20.50 per adult and our dinner buffet is $23.50 per adult.
Reach for cooling foods
Dairy-based sides, rice and bread help soothe heat. Yogurt-based sides, in particular, can calm a spicy bite. Keep a bit of plain rice or bread on your plate as a buffer.
Choose a good drink
Cold drinks and creamy drinks help more than plain water for many people. Traditional options like lassi are a popular match, and our bar serves handcrafted cocktails if you'd like something with your meal. Ask your server what's available.
Don't judge by colour
A deep red sauce isn't always the spiciest dish, and a pale one isn't always mild. Colour often comes from tomatoes, paprika-style spices or marinades. Ask rather than guess.
Eating spicy food with kids
If you're bringing children, ask for the mildest dishes and keep cooling sides nearby. Many kids enjoy bread, rice and mild tandoori items.
Dietary notes
We offer plenty of vegetarian options and can accommodate vegan and gluten-free requests. Tell your server what you need when you arrive.
